Toronto – The Week Ahead in Concerts, Theater and Sports (7th July 2010)
July 9th, 2010Toronto features a terrific line-up this week for concert-lovers, theater-goers and sports fans alike. Concert highlights include Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana and Rush. Sports fans can enjoy the delights of Manchester United playing Celtic FC – LIVE here in Toronto!
Lady Gaga, who plays at the Air Canada Centre on 11th and 12th of July, is expected to perform many of her most popular numbers such as “Just Dance”, “Love Game”, “Poker Face”, “Paparazzi”, “Bad Romance”, and “Speechless”. She has just achieved 4th place in the Forbes magazine annual World’s Most Powerful Celebrities list – she landed there thanks to high marks for her Web visibility (#1 on the list) and a $62 million haul between June 2009 and June 2010, $31 million of which came from touring (after a gross of $95 million).
Carlos Santana brings his Universal Tone Tour to the Molson Amphitheatre on 11th July. The concert will feature hits from Santana’s four-decades-long career, as well as songs from a brand new studio album. Classics to be expected in the set include Soul Sacrifice, Into The Night, and Dame Tu Amor. Santana’s most recent release was the 2010 reissue of Supernatural as a 2-CD Legacy Edition featuring 11 previously un-issued bonus tracks in celebration of the classic nine-time Grammy-winning album’s 10th anniversary.
Rush perform on 13th July at the Molson Amphitheatre. Their “Time Machine” concert is likely to include some of their most popular songs such as Tom Sawyer, La Villa Strangiato, and Working Man. Rush has won a number of Juno Awards and was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame in 1994. As a group, Rush possesses 24 gold records and 14 platinum (3 multi-platinum) records.
Theater-goers can enjoy Miss Saigon on 11th, 13th, 14th and 15th July at the Four Seasons Centre, Legally Blonde each night at the Princess Of Wales Theatre, and Rock of Ages each night at the Royal Alexandra. Or, each night at the Toronto Centre For The Arts in North York, Jersey Boys – the award-winning musical based on the lives of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, one of the most successful rock ‘n roll groups of the 1960’s.
Moving on to Sports, the Blue Jays are playing the Minnesota Twins on 7th and 8th July, and the Boston Red Sox on 9th, 10th and 11th July. All games at the Rogers Centre. Toronto FC play the Colorado Rapids on 10th July at BMO Field, and the Argonauts meet the Calgary Stampeders on 14th July at the Rogers Centre.
For soccer fans there’s only one place to be on 16th July when the big guns come to town – the Toronto Soccer Showcase features no less than Manchester United playing Celtic at the Rogers Centre.
