Remington College-Dallas Campus Pastry Arts Students Take the Cake in Texas Baking Competitions

November 1st, 2011

Students in the Remington College-Dallas Campus Pastry Arts Diploma Program have racked up more than a baker’s dozen awards in culinary competitions throughout Texas.

As part of the pastry arts curriculum, students put their baking and confection skills to the test against professional chefs, restaurant owners and others in a variety of competitions and categories. Teams from Remington College-Dallas Campus have won several prestigious awards at the 2011 Southwest Foodservice Expo, the North Texas Cake Sugar Art Show and the annual ChocolateFest in Grapevine.

Students have won awards in a variety of categories, including “Celebration Cake,” “Sculpted Cake” and “Special Techniques Not on a Cake.” Other competitions focused on chocolate, where students created dulce de leche truffles, white chocolate cakeballs, Parisian macaroons, raspberry ganache tarts and other delicacies.

“We’re very proud of our students and how far they’ve come,” said Pastry Arts Department Chair Kate Schroeder, known as Chef Kate. “We’re looking forward to more competitions, fundraisers and opportunities for them to test their skills. We also look forward to seeing our students graduate and become successful in the pastry arts field.”1

Competition can be fierce on the baking circuit. The Southwest Foodservice Expo drew several thousand participants, and nine Remington College pastry arts students won medals for their efforts. Students created their entries on campus during time between classes. “Our students spent an average of about 50 hours of solid work on their projects,” said Chef Instructor Todd Pagan. “They learned a lot about their craft and how to better themselves and their art, and they are all very deserving of the recognition they received.”

The Pastry Arts Diploma Program is designed to help people turn their taste for baking into a fun and challenging potential career. Classes focus on practical skills and hands-on experience and include:

  • Introduction to Pastry Arts
  • Baking Methodology
  • Artisan Breads and Rolls
  • Cakes and Icing

Remington College Online Congratulates its First Group of Graduates

October 10th, 2011

Heathrow, Fla. – (October 10, 2011) – Remington College is pleased to congratulate the first graduates from Remington College Online Programs.

What began with a handful of students in 2009 has grown into a growing, virtual education option, offering  students the opportunity to pursue a degree from home while learning from faculty with real-world experience.

Associate’s and bachelor’s degree programs are currently offered in paralegal (currently the most popular online offering), business, accounting, management, marketing and criminal justice.

Tauvaris J. Moore, one of the first graduates from Remington College Online Programs, has several degrees but says the BS in Organizational Management from Remington College is the one he’s most proud of. “The level of care and compassion I received from Remington has been something that I cannot put into words,” said Moore. “The most important aspect of my degree was not the courses or what I learned, it was how I was treated. And I received compassion from administrators as if I were a close family member. I am grateful for my experience with Remington.”

For Marti Foodrill, getting her Paralegal Associate’s Degree was a difficult but rewarding challenge. “I’m quite proud to be graduating from Remington,” said Foodrill. “I’ve had to work my tail off to get good grades, but I’ve loved every minute of it. I believe I’ve grown and improved, and that’s what higher education is all about.”

“We’re proud of our first graduates and also for the success we’ve had in helping people achieve the dream of getting a degree,” said Dale Leatherwood, President of Remington College’s online programs. “We’re continually developing and refining our classes and looking forward to continued growth.”

Remington College Online Programs is now enrolling students for its next class start. Remington College is a branch of the Remington College-Tampa Campus and is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges.
