Relaxation Music Scores a Hit by Slowing Down Heart Rate and Helping People Unwind

July 10th, 2010

Two albums of relaxation music scored by Australian Matthew Harding and Rick Plumridge have achieved bestseller status, after suitable proving that their music can cause a relaxation of the human heart rate.

Relaxation music therapy reached a new high this year when two successive relaxation music albums became online hits. These albums are titled River to the Sea and Sea to Sky. Composers Matthew Harding and his partner Rick Plumridge have proved that their music can cause a slowdown of the human cardiac rate.

Science has proved that there is a significant increase in heart rate when a person is stressed. There are other symptoms as well such as heavy breathing, perspiration, a feeling of clammy coldness, etc., which can differ from one person to another. However, these are secondary symptoms that are caused by the palpitation. Since the 50s, music therapy has been considered to be a cure for stress because it can reduce the heart rate and bring it down closer to the normal range.

In particular, the music of these two albums has been found during collective researches to bring down the heart rate in the vicinity of 72 beats per minute, which is the standard human heart rate when it is at rest. Experts state how this heart rate indicates that the person is in a state of ‘wakeful sleep’, which is the most relaxed state a person can be in while they are awake.

The people who were studied with this relaxation music were able to think in clearer terms and felt generally cheerful when the hour-long session was completed. There was a general increase in energy and their muscle tension was found to be reduced as well. In some cases, prolonged benefits were also indicated such as an improvement of the blood pressure, treatment of insomnia and reduction of migraine conditions.

Matthew Harding and Rick Plumridge have gone to nature in order to compose their songs. They have explored a lot of the Australian wilderness to capture nature sounds, most notably the sounds of the animals and birds, and fit them into their tracks. There are 8 music tracks in each of the albums which are available on the website http://www.relaxationmusicaustralia.com/.

Following the validation of this relaxation nature music, these bestselling albums have been included on the in-flight entertainment programs of Qantas Airways and Malaysian Airlines. Various TV programs such as Gardening Australia, Get Away and Burke’s Backyard have run segments about the albums. The albums are also sold through Australian Geographic stores and through the Leprosy Mission Australia while the State Government of Victoria’s Department of Primary Industries has distributed copies of the album to their staff during their Stress Relief in the Workplace campaign.
