Dealing with College placement and mentoring
July 13th, 2009The graduates are undertaking career development courses and other related courses putting their trust on college placement. It resolves the issue of looking for a job once the graduation is over. College placement helps to train the students and also relieves them of the stress of job hunting in their specialized field. The students are also helped with the mentoring program so that they gain first hand experience from a professional.
Most of the colleges have a placement cell of their own and they are responsible for placing their students into appropriate jobs after graduation or whichever carrier course they are attending. These college placement cells act to monitor the students’ development throughout their course. They ensure that students receive complete training before they are placed. This training includes all types of skills which are required for an individual when he or she starts working. They are trained to reason and communicate with confidence. Their aptitude for problem solving and leadership is developed so that they are able to come through the interview with flying colors.
Their training for college placement is carried out along with their academics in their final and pre-final semesters. On the other side the college placement keeps close contact with the companies or recruiters where they would like to place their students. They invite various establishments to come for campus interview and provide necessary infrastructure for it. They encourage the companies to hold campus interview, provide details of the students, etc. The college placement office acts as a bridge between the students aspiring for a job and the companies looking for candidates.
The mentoring program is a great way of providing a chance to the students to gain knowledge about their field of work, develop clear idea about their goal, and help to develop a carrier network through the mentor in their own field. Mentoring programs are extremely helpful for a student as they find a friend and guide in a mentor and understand the role they have to take once they finish their studies. This program enables a student to observe how the company functions and learn about the options available to them regarding the opportunities. This makes them confident to deal with any practical situations arising in the workplace.
Mentoring programs are different from organization to organization. Some companies encourage one-on-one mentoring. Here a senior student nearing graduation is placed within a company for summer training and is placed under a senior executive. The person is supposed to extend personal attention regarding the practical learning he or she is supposed to gain. Sometimes a new employee too comes under mentoring program.
Another way is group mentoring program. A group of students or new employees are placed under a senior executive or two senior officials so that they are trained to act as a team. This way company can take on more mentoring program than could have been possible with one-on-one program. There are some form of informal mentoring which is done when a junior employee is taken under the wing by a senior person and is taught the workings of the company and the department he or she is working in. Once you obtain a job through college placement be a keen observer to learn the work ethics. Everyone loves a quick learner. Isn’t it?
For a better job opportunity enroll for college placement program. To gain pre work experience go for a mentoring program that would make things simpler for you.
