First European Jazz Festival in Marbella Adds Melody to the Town

July 17th, 2010

Starting from 20th to 26th July, the elegant Costa del Sol resort town of Marbella is going to host its international jazz festival with some of the world’s greatest jazz performers. There are many music festivals held across Andalucia every year, and this too promises more entertainment to the region.

This star-studded extravaganza will kick off with the performance of Flamenco fusion singer Diana Navarro at the Marbella Municipal Football Stadium (Campo de Futbol de Marbella). The whole list of programs also includes Chico & Gypsies, Eliane Elias, the Al Benson Band, Blues Brothers Tribute and the F. Sinatra Band, among others.

On Wednesday (July 21st), you will get to meet Helene Labarriere & Norma Winstone with their live Jazz and Swing performances, and the next day the show from Al Benson Orchestra. And as you get to the swing of musical environs, Eliane Elias will enthrall you with some nice pieces of Brazilian Jazz.

The weekends are further filled with swing, pop and soul performances from the Sedajazz Swing Band along with the Thomas and the Costadellics Band. And if you want an extra kick at the venue, it’s all on Sunday with Chico & The Gypsies.

Then on Monday, July 26th, The F. Sinatra Show and the Blue Brothers Tribute (with Swing, Rhythm, and Blues) followed by the Gala Pasion Vega on July 27th. In addition, one of the most popular Spanish singer-songwriter Luz Casal has also confirmed to perform on the closing day for the inaugural European Jazz Festival in Marbella.

Marbella Town Hall, in an earlier press statement has already praised vociferously this idea of conducting such cultural and musical activities that not only boost the image of Marbella but also draw more and more tourists during the high season.

Although there were jazz festivals organized earlier in the town, the eight-day long festival, which from here on will be repeated annually, promises to bring back the same old charm and entertainment with the sounds and rhythms of some international array of jazz artists.

For European tourists, Marbella remains one of the top most travelled destinations for its exceptional year-round weather and quality lifestyle amid golf, luxury villas, hotels and fashionable nightclubs. Moreover, with growing economic development in the presence and participation of diverse expat community, this has always been in the centre of attraction in Spain and other European countries.

However, as observed by the event management company Events & Concerto SL, Marbella lacks culture, keeping aside the traditional Spanish flamenco and bullfighting. In comparison to tourist areas such as Cannes, Monaco, Nice, Antibes and San Remo, Marbella in general does not have much in offerings for the culture lovers.

Hence, the promoter and various stake holders in the process, after carefully analyzing the need for some international standard musical events on the coast, came up with few good programs. International Country Music Festival (in August) and the Marbella European Festival of Magic (in December) are the other two upcoming events to be staged.
