Penrith hotels very dapper new bar

After a competition to find a new name for the George Hotel’s refurbished bar, the name is revealed this week as DAPPERS BAR.

The name DAPPERS BAR was chosen from over 270 entries ranging from the very traditional to the very modern and quirky. John Fisk from Shap entered the winning name. He thought the many sided 400 year old history of the hotel could tie in to the new look and feel of the new bar.

The hotel was a buzz during the 1700’s, Bonnie Prince Charlie came to stay and King George II was on the throne. Noted for being smart and well dressed in his fine clothing, King George II was nick named Dapper King George. Now the bar is modern and distinctive, it too feels like a dapper place to be.

Justin Wales, General Manager at the George Hotel part of the Lake District Hotels Ltd Group said “Finding a name has been very difficult because there were so many to choose from and everyone has a different idea what it should be. John was really pleased when we told him that we had decided on Dapper’s Bar because of the link to King George II. He reigned during an important part of the hotel’s history and it was his forebears that the George Hotel was named after.”

John and his wife Sue called in to the bar this week to collect their £60 dinner vouchers and were impressed with the welcoming ambiance, comfy sofas and the fine detail like the gold leaf light fittings. They also shared some of their research on the dapper king and his life with Justin who has already commissioned a special plaque to commemorate the new name.  It is being crafted to sit at the entrance of the bar and will recount the famous words that Queen Caroline allegedly uttered about King George II: “You may strut, dapper George, but ’twill all be in vain, We all know ’tis Queen Caroline, not you, that reign.”

As well as refurbishing the bar, the Lake District Hotels Ltd Group have also made improvements to the rear entrance with the entrance dressed in a new coat of paint and a new barrier entrance to control the car park. It means guests will have much easier access to car park and a pleasant entrance to the rear of this Penrith hotel.

La Bella Baskets Delivers “Basket of Hope” to Single Mothers In Need

Oh la la the French Revolution

For years manufacturers within the window and door industry have been producing French Doors which have failed to adequately protect the homeowner.

Because of their design flaws they have proved a haven for intruders, who were able to break in by using only the simplest of tools such as; chisels and crowbars, even garden spades.

This was something that we took seriously and went back to the drawing board. We decided to not only look at how to improve the doors, but to make them more secure and, we also looked at how to raise the bar by developing a traditional French door.

Graduate and professional schools, major American corporations, and people seeking serious relationships increasingly turn to a personality test to determine who suits their criteria. Educators and employers are finding that, in a challenging situations and competitive environments, giftedness without character has little value.

Oliver Goldsmith sagely penned, “Both wit and understanding are trifles without integrity. The ignorant peasant without fault is greater than the philosopher with many. What is genius or courage without a heart?” American graduate and professional schools and many major American corporations have begun applying Goldsmith’s wisdom to their applicants, testing candidates’ personalities as well as their intellects.

“Medical schools, law schools, and big corporations have no objection to lovable nerds,” explains Kymberleigh Cox, an industrial psychologist at Advanced Industrial Research, “but they want reasonable assurance that their most intelligent applicants are not raving sociopaths.” Cox credits the medical school at the University of Notre Dame with starting this trend in the late 1990’s. “They found that many candidates with exemplary academic records and spectacular test scores had the personalities of canned sardines,” Dr. Cox reports. “Because bedside manner influences patient care at least as much as bio-chemistry, the Notre Dame medical school started screening applicants for their human qualities as well as their IQ’s. Most of the best medical schools now do similar personality screening. Many law schools also recommend some kind of pre-admission personality test.”

The value of personality testing
By far the most popular and practical personality test currently in widespread use, the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator gives reliable information about how people think, choose, and act. Derived from the work of Carl Jung, the Myers-Briggs “inventory” challenges people to choose between thinking and feeling, sensing and intuition, extraversion and introversion, and judging or perceiving. Personality testing well beyond the workplace
“If it works at work, it probably works at home, too,” Kymberleigh Cox smiles. “Personality testing has had a huge impact on courtship and marriage, and the most successful online dating sites have built their reputations on reasonably careful matching of compatible characters.”

For relationship purposes, “personality” is a combination of traits, emotions, expectations, and values — by no means the same as the Jungian categories. According to Dr. Cox, “Compatibility results from good balance between what we used to call ‘character’. Values and emotions play a greater role in compatibility tests than they do in occupational tests, because what we want and what we feel determine how we behave with our loved ones.”
