Lake District Hotels Ltd raise funds for the Mountain Rescue Team

March 24th, 2010

The Lodore Falls Hotel raised £700 at a “Lancashire Ladies Luncheon” which was presented in a very poignant fashion to Keswick Mountain Rescue Team.

Stephen Johnson, General Manager at the Lodore Falls hotel decided to raise funds for the Keswick Mountain Rescue because of a very dramatic rescue concerning two of the hotel guests. Trudy Edgar and her husband Tom became stuck under a 70 ft tree trunk after a freak accident up the mountain behind the hotel. It took Keswick Mountain Rescue, RAF helicopter, local police, fire and ambulance service to rescue her.

The money raised at the Lancashire Ladies luncheon was presented to Keswick Mountain Rescue by Stephen Johnson who invited Trudy Edgar to come along to help present the check and meet some of her rescuers again.

Trudy, who lives locally still loves coming back to stay at the hotel “It is a magical place. I have stayed in some fantastic places all over the world but the Lodore Falls is still one of my favorites – you could be in any luxury location and it’s only 30 minutes from home. What makes it special is the fantastically friendly customer service, the lovely food and a simply stunning location. The fact that the Lodore staff where part of my rescue team only makes me love the place even more”.

Summing up the presentation, Stephen said “The Lodore Falls Hotel regularly supports the Keswick Mountain Rescue Team because we often see them traveling up the valley to help people. It is unusual for us to have such first hand knowledge and we will certainly continue to support them in the future.”

Quality Is The Priority At Siddall And Hilton Products Ltd

March 8th, 2010

West Yorkshire, United Kingdom (March 05, 2010) – During 2009 Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd implemented a more rigid regime of quality through its entire supply chain. The company manufactures steel products from wire including wire mesh and wire fencing products for commercial, industrial and domestic users. The supply chain involves the company sourcing tens of thousands of tons of steel wire from all over Europe as their main production material.

In order to maintain the company’s high quality standards it implemented a process of inspecting and sample testing all material deliveries. The numerous inspections and tests included dimensional and weight checks, surface finish, coating quality and tensile strength as well as monitoring packing materials, labeling and delivery performance, all against pre-determined criteria.

Any material found to be defective has been brought to the attention of the supplier and Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd now work with their suppliers to help to identify causes and solutions. New quality standards have been complemented with additional quality department staff recruited to strengthen the Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd quality team. The initiative also included the design and acquisition of bespoke manufactured testing equipment to enable in-house testing.

Before the more in depth inspections and tests were introduced the company typically discovered sub-standard materials during the manufacturing process but the new standards have already saved the company significant time in production by identifying and removing any sub-standard material before it enters the manufacturing line.

Supplier performance now continues to be measured and compared as part of an ‘open’ vendor rating system where the company communicates quality ratings against a variety of criteria and allows suppliers to compare their ratings with those of their competitors.

Siddall and Hilton Products Ltd is pleased to be able to announce its recent successful audit for compliance with the quality requirements of ISO9001:2008.

Managing Director, Neil Stewardson said “Siddall and Hilton’s reputation for providing quality products dates back to 1898. This is a proud family business which has always insisted on supplying superior products. Our uncompromising attitude to quality and our supply chain partnerships are what allow us to state with confidence that our products are of the highest caliber”.

Sparkling Champagne for The Borrowdale Hotel’s new look dining room

March 5th, 2010

The launch of the new dining room at the Borrowdale Hotel was a truly sparkling affair as guests were treated to a Champagne Celebration dinner which included a different champagne with every course.

The new look dining room now appears larger, warmer and more inviting with rich gold’s and burgundy bringing the hotel up to date yet still keeping its charm. It was the perfect setting for Champagne coming to Cumbria.

Stephen Wilcock, General Manager of the hotel took advantage of his Master Sommelier skills to work with Jean Pierre Marniquet – the hotel’s specialist grower and wine maker from the Champagne region. Working with Head Chef they created a delicious menu that married the flavors and textures of the food with the different champagnes produced by Jean Pierre.

Guests heard Stephen explain the history of Champagne and also how this particular Champagne is nurtured through production in Jean Pierre Marniquet’s small, privately owned vineyard. “His seven hectare vineyard is very close to some of the most famous champagne names, but as a small grower producer, Jean Pierre can stay very close to the production process to ensure the best from his grapes.”

Jean Pier and his daughter Cyrille travelled from France especially for the evening. They were invited to explain the complexities and subtleties of each champagne as it was served with each course.

Coffee was served with an old Fin de Champagne which was provided by Pascal Delorme from Grapevine Wine Merchant who also supply the hotel with most of their wine.

Diners described the evening as “truly incredible – a wonderful way to reopen the restaurant and a fantastic introduction to a great range of champagne.”

The redevelopment of the restaurant is something that Stephen Wilcock is very proud of. As a Master Sommelier he is now eagerly waiting for the completion of a Wine Cellar and wine tasting bar in the dining room. “Guests really enjoyed learning about the Champagnes we served and want to learn more about our wines.” He said “the Wine Cellar is almost complete and we are looking forward to many Wine tasting events in the future. The Borrowdale hotel has come a long way in the last two years – introducing the wine cellar is something new for Lake District Hotels and it will make us unique in the area.”

Anyone interested in finding out more about the Borrowdale Hotels new wine tasting cellar should contact Stephen Wilcock at the Borrowdale Hotel on 017687 77224 or visit http://www.lakedistricthotels.net/borrowdalehotel/index.htm.

Strictly Come Dancing Ballroom Tour Gets Rave Reviews

March 2nd, 2010

It’s no massive surprise when you consider the popularity of the hit TV show, but the Strictly Come Dancing live ballroom tour is well underway and is going down very well indeed!

Having danced their way through Manchester, London, Nottingham, Glasgow, Birmingham, Sheffield and Liverpool, the stars of the show are currently completing their final couple of nights in Newcastle before the tour closes.

The live shows have followed a similar format to the TV shows, with 8 of the celebrities from last year’s show and their professional dancing partners competing, before facing the comments of the famous four judges. The ‘winner’ on the night is decided by a combination of audience votes and judges’ scores.

The show has been described by Suzanne Black of the Worcester News as “not one to miss,” by the Daily Mail as, “slick stage show,” and “crowd-pleaser.” And, as you’d expect, the blogosphere is awash with positive praise for the performances.

For a ballroom dancing show of this nature to fill out arenas normally played by the likes of Jay-Z, Rihanna and a host of commercial pop musicians makes it fair to say that the real winner of this live tour (and perhaps of the Strictly brand) is ballroom dancing itself. Ballroom has enjoyed a surge in uptake since the popular show began airing and even those who have yet to don their ballroom shoes are taking more of an interest than ever before.

Strictly Come Dancing seemingly opened the floodgates for dance related reality shows, with the BBC even adding to its dance show collection recently with new offering, ‘So You Think You Can Dance.’ The host of such related TV shows have certainly revived the popularity of dance within the mainstream to an unprecedented level. And that’s no bad thing! After all, it’s a much healthier pastime than watching TV and playing video games!

Tips on getting affordable family health coverage.

March 2nd, 2010

So you’re finally married and you have a nice house. You’re also ready to build your family. But wait, you’ve forgotten something as important as getting a loan for your house. Have you considered getting a family health coverage? Good family health coverage can make sure that you go through pregnancy without worrying about piling medical bills. And, despite what most people believe, there is a lot of cheap health insurance. Look for one that can cover each and every pre-natal or maternity need. Read on to learn more about how to make the best out of your family health coverage, especially when you’re expecting.

Check if pregnancy is covered in your existing health plan. Even if you’re not pregnant yet, it’s best to see if your insurance includes maternity benefit. You should also look at the details of your coverage. Ask your agent if things such as prenatal check-ups and prenatal vitamins or medicine are included. It’s also good to know if your plan also covers pregnancy complications.

Compare your family health coverage with that of your spouse’s. Check which family health coverage is more detailed. This can help you know which one to use. Remember that most group plans offer maternity benefits. Review each detail with your spouse. Standard coverage includes doctor’s visits, sonograms or ultrasounds. It should also have lab work, anesthesia, delivery and hospital admission fees. Check, too, if it covers prenatal care and vitamins and even newborn check-ups.

Consider getting a maternity rider. Do this if pregnancy isn’t covered in your existing plan. It is stated under law that health group plans covering over 15 employees should include maternity benefits in their family health coverage plans. But if you and your spouse have individual plans, ask your insurance agent about getting maternity benefits as an amendment to your existing plans. You might have to pay extra, but it’ll be all worth it.

Shop around for cheap health insurance. Do this if you cannot get a maternity rider or if you do not have an existing plan. Be sure to get one with full maternity coverage. It’s best to look for a good plan while you aren’t pregnant yet. This should be one of your priorities as soon as you get married. Most companies view pregnancy as a pre-existing condition. They may turn you down if you try to purchase cheap health insurance when you’re already pregnant.

Don’t worry if you are already pregnant and don’t have health insurance. There are many options for uninsured women who are unemployed or already pregnant. Cheap health insurance plans are available for you, such as Ameriplan, Maternity Advantage and Medicaid. Some government programs also offer insurance for women and children.

Remember that the best time to get maternity benefits in your family health coverage is before you are pregnant. Don’t wait until the last minute. Prepare for your future family and make sure that you and your baby get the best medical care at the lowest cost possible. You can do this by finding the best insurance that carries maternity benefits.

Get the best family health coverage and shop around for cheap health insurance. Our site can help you find the most comprehensive maternity coverage for you and your baby.
